History of mother's day.
Friends, today I will tell you about Mother's Day..
The origins of Mother’s Day in the United States date back to the 19th century. Before the Civil War, a woman named Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia started “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children. After she died in 1905, Ann’s daughter Anna Jarvis established the concept of Mother’s Day to honor the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
Celebrating mothers and motherhood can also be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.
In the European context, Mother’s Day is the predecessor of the Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday”, which was seen as a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church” (the main church in the vicinity of their home) for a special service. Eventually, the festival shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with various tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
